Happy Trails (Day) to You
by Niki Kourofsky
Double down on the fun at Northville’s Waterfront Park on June 7–8, when folks will gather to celebrate both National Trails Day and the 90th anniversary of the Northville-Placid Trail (NPT).
Starting at 10 a.m. on both days, Northville’s Waterfront Park will be packed with Adirondack artisans and authors, children’s activities (meet Smokey the Bear!), and local bites and brews, as well as exhibits by the Adirondack Mountain Club, the Wild Center and more. Enjoy music by Annie & the Hedonists, Doug Moody and other North Country notables throughout the weekend, and don’t miss the dedication of the NPT archway at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The towering trailhead marker, crafted by rustic artisan William Coffey, spans the new official starting point of the classic 133-mile hike.
To combine a little work with your play, pitch in with the Adirondack Mountain Club as volunteers polish up the freshly installed section of the NPT, in the Silver Lake Wilderness, and extend the trail into the Shaker Mountain Wild Forest.
