Jazz Trumpeter Taylor Haskins Opens Westport Concert Series
by Lisa Bramen
Update: The rained-out Taylor Haskins performance has been rescheduled for Tuesday, July 22nd. The rain location will be the Whallonsburgh Grange Hall.
Westport’s Ballard Park is the setting for a free outdoor concert by veteran jazz trumpeter Taylor Haskins July 3, the first in the Soundwaves series of Thursday night performances. Haskins, who moved here from Brooklyn four years ago, “has recorded 5 albums as a leader and last year alone played on recordings by Nels Cline, Jamie Baum, Alan Ferber, Joel Harrison & JC Sanford,” according to a press release. Haskins is also curator of the eight-concert series, which goes beyond jazz to include world music, folk, classical and bluegrass.
The series continues every Thursday night through August 27th at the Ballard Park Performance Pavilion overlooking Lake Champlain. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs and a picnic, or hold out for wood-fired pizza from the Keene Valley–based Clay Hearth food truck. The rain site is across Main Street/Route 22 in the Westport Heritage House chapel.
